Second Sunday Bark-Abouts

Bark-About along Salmon Huckleberry Road 4610
Since the beginning, Bark has offered free, monthly hikes to Mt. Hood National Forest and other surrounding public lands. We believe that by witnessing the breathtaking Cascade ecosystem and learning about the many threats facing it, we can build stronger advocates for the protection of our public lands. Our hike leaders are passionate, knowledgeable volunteers who incorporate information about forest ecology and policy with how to get involved in our efforts!

You can join Bark the second Sunday of every month to carpool from Portland out to the forest. The meet up location and hike description can be found on the events calendar at http://bark-out.org/event.php

Carpools meet at the Hollywood Trader Joe's, 4121 NE Halsey in Portland at 9am sharp. It is across the street from the Hollywood Transit Center, near the I-84 exit 2. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful hike. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver. If you would like to try to arrange a meet up closer to the forest, please contact the Bark office the week before the hike.

We try to ensure that our hikes are accessible to a broad range of outdoor experience and interest. Bark-Abouts are usually off-trail and can often be more difficult than a hike on a trail. While mileage is usually short, there can be the occasional steep ridge climb, stream crossing or downed logs to traverse. We encourage you to call us before the hike if you have questions or concerns. Otherwise, our hike leaders are prepared to alter the hike to meet the needs of the participants.

Come prepared for a full day hike with water, lunch, appropriate clothing (even when it’s not raining you can get soaked walking off trail through the brush) and hiking boots or sturdy sneakers.
