House Party
House parties are a great way to introduce new people to Bark's work and help build the Bark family member by member. House parties also provide opportunities for existing Bark members to get to know each other and to welcome new people.
Bark House Parties have three key goals:
Membership/contributions - Over 60% of Barks budget comes from our members. In addition to Bark members keeping our programs running, the size of our membership (over 2,500!) gives us strength in negotiating with the Forest Service and BLM.
Outreach - Bark relies on volunteers to help accomplish our work. If one friend comes to your party and gets involved with Bark, that is success!
Fun - Bark staff, volunteers, and members work tirelessly to protect our forests from the outdated and misguided policies of the Forest Service and BLM. Bark parties are perfect for unwinding and saying thanks to your fellow Barkers for their hard work.
As a house party host, you are expected to:
- Pick a date at least one month in advance, and let Bark know ASAP.
- Create a list of friends, family, and neighbors to invite. Plan on inviting three to four times the number of guests you hope attend. If youd like 25 guests to attend the party, you should plan on inviting 75-100 people.
- Choose a location for the event (i.e., at your home, a friends home, your office?).
- Choose a format for the party (i.e., backyard BBQ, dessert-and-coffee, wine tasting, garden party, general get-together).
- Send out invitations to potential guests.
- Follow up with the invited guests with a phone call to confirm attendance or answer questions (very important!).
- Provide refreshments - whatever you would like to serve.
- Pitch Barks work people are already there to support Barks work, nows your chance to reach your membership/contribution goal.
- Have fun!
