ABOUT BARK Bark is a small, dynamic grassroots conservation group whose mission is to preserve the forests, waters and wildlife of Mt. Hood National Forest. Since its founding in 1999, Bark has helped save over 15,000 acres of forest from destruction. Bark monitors and enforces public agency compliance with environmental laws, and educates and engages the public through hikes, presentations, and a TV show about threats to the Mt. Hood ecosystem and strategies to preserve it. ABOUT THE POSITION Have you wanted to turn your videography skills into action? Not sure where to begin? Bark is offering a two-month, unpaid internship working on one of our longest-standing, most effective outreach tools. For almost ten years, we have had a monthly show broadcast on local public access television stations, including Portland Community Media, conveniently located across the street from our office. Filmed on our monthly, second Sunday hikes, we capture volunteer hike leaders discussing the threats to Mt. Hood National Forest and our public lands, participant responses and images of the extraordinary Cascade ecosystems that we hike through. This internship requires past experience with filming, film editing and production, as well as internet video outreach. An interest and ability to hike up to four miles is strongly recommended. JOB DESCRIPTION The intern will work directly with our Community Organizer and the Bark for Mt. Hood videographer and long-time community activist, Jim Lockhart. Each hike is focused on a specific threat to an area in Mt. Hood. Using effective communication strategies for getting the word out, we will develop a preliminary outline of footage to obtain through the hike. Barks extensive network of volunteers will offer experience working with community contacts to obtain images and music for additions to the show. In post-production, we will use new media tools to enhance the outreach capability. The position is a minimum of 6-10 hrs/wk for two months. Hours are flexible and our office is informal. HOW TO APPLY Bark provides some education, training, and resources for assistants working with us. For more information about Bark, see www.bark-out.org. Mail or e-mail resume and cover letter to: Olivia Schmidt, Community Organizer, ATTN: Videographer Internship, Bark, P.O. Box 12065, Portland, OR 97212 or [email protected].
