Geothermal Energy Leasing
The Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management have produced a draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement that is proposing over 180 million acres become opened up for geothermal energy leasing, including sites on Mt. Hood National Forest. This would cause permanent changes to the management plans. In addition, supporting infrastructure such as roads and transmission corridors would have to be considered to enable the energy to be accessed and available to consumers. The entire draft PEIS can be viewed on the BLM 's website, www.blm.gov.
