Bark Video: Monitoring Snags at the Wildcat Timber Sale
Check out the video from our November Bark-About where volunteer Paula Hood lead an interactive hike where the public surveyed how many snags, or standing dead trees, remained after logging.
On our November Bark-About we brought a dozen volunteers to a timber sale that had recently been logged to see how many snags remained after logging. Snags, or standing dead trees, are vital habitat for the critters who inhabit these forests. But unfortunately snags are often falled during the logging operations because they are considered a safety risk to loggers. Volunteer Paula Hood went into the sale before it was cut and marked 100 snags with paint, GPS readings, and photos to challenge the Forest Service to do better. Watch the link below to see how it went.
