Zigzag Ranger District Offering Mt. Hood Hikes

The Mt. Hood National Forest is offering a weekly pair of guided hikes during August to learn more about the mountain.

Sundays: A seven-mile round-trip ranger-led hike takes you to Mount Hood’s most popular waterfall, Ramona Falls.

It’s an interpretive hike during which you will learn about wilderness areas and leave-to-trace hiking and camping.

Pack water, snacks and lace up your boots or hiking shoes and meet at noon at the Ramona Falls Trailhead.

Take Highway 26 east to Zigzag, turn left (north) on Lolo Pass Road (Forest Road 18 four miles, then go right on Road 1825, then turn right .6 miles up the road, crossing the bridge and going another 1.7 miles before bearing left on 1825-100 for .3 mile, then left on 1825-024 to the parking lot.

Cost: Free, but a day-use or Northwest Forest parking pass is required.

Fridays: Join a ranger for a four-mile round-trip hike with about 700 feet of elevation gain in White River Canyon.

Pack water and a snack, and dress for the weather with stout hiking shoes or boots.

The group assembles at noon at the U.S. Forest Service desk in Timberline Lodge.
