The Forest Service issued its final decision on the Jazz Timber Sale on September 7th, 2012, stating the 2,000 acre logging project would have No Significant Impact. This decision signals the Forest Services intent to proceed with the project as planned, and their intent to ignore the concerns expressed by Bark and nearly 3,000 people.
Bark Groundtruthers spent over 600 hours surveying the proposed Jazz Timber Sale and documented concerns ranging from threats to water quality in the Collowash Watershed, protection for numerous undocumented streams and other riparian areas, threats to salmon population, a high density of landslides and unstable soil, and the reconstruction of miles roads that have naturally incorporated into the landscape. The Forest Services Finding of No Significant Impact does little to address these problems, and Bark intends to appeal its decision.
