50,000 conversations and four lawsuits later, we're looking back at our accomplishments in 2012. If you're proud of our work this year, please make a tax-deductible donation today.
Oregonians stalled Nestlé
Bark canvassers educated 50,000 people on doorsteps, sidewalks and at public events. Now our email list is 23,000-strong, and that means political power. For example, last week when Bark asked for action, over 500 Oregonians sent emails demanding protections for our water. That makes 36,000 Nestlé actions to date!
In April, Bark hired Crag Law Center to challenge permits transferring water to Nestlé. The case is about to begin, but for now, Nestlé still doesn't have our water!
Bark protected 2,500 acres of Mt. Hood forests
Airstrip. Horseshoe. Jazz. These are names of timber sales -- your Mt. Hood forests -- that were not logged this year!
Bark hosted four Groundtruthing and NEPA 101 trainings, empowering volunteers to collect the field data that Bark uses in administrative and legal appeals.
Bark was the best!
Okay, 7th best.
But not bad for the whole state.
Bark defended Mt. Hood rivers
Bark settled a lawsuit over the Bush-era "Westwide Energy Corridor" proposal that put the final nail in the coffin of the Palomar Pipeline.
Bark's Freedom of Information Act request last year uncovered illegal logging proposed in salmon habitat. Bark sued. This year we settled the suit and protected miles of salmon streams!
A few ways Bark volunteers stretched your membership in 2012...
Bark volunteers: Clocked over 1,100 hours groundtruthing thousands of acres in 12 timber sales ♦ Organized the first-ever Bark Summer School ♦ Led 14 hikes for 250 people to Mt. Hood National Forest ♦ Maintained Bark's books and filed our tax return ♦ Provided pro-bono legal representation to stop privatization of Bagby Hot Springs and Mt. Hood campgrounds, and to protect salmon from streamside logging ♦ Created a set of GIS Maps connecting logging road impacts and watershed health ♦ Broadcast Bark for Mt. Hood TV ♦ Posted over 1,000 photographs of threats to Mt. Hood ♦ Provided free IT support ♦ Produced videos exposing the negative effects of logging ♦ Hosted concerts and house parties to raise money for Bark ♦ Oversaw the organization at six board meetings and 12 committee meetings -- now that's dedication!
Thank you for a great year!
Sincerely,
Alex P. Brown, Executive Director
