Dear Barker,
Last year volunteers from Cascadia Wild found the Sierra Nevada red fox, one of the rarest mammals in North America, on Mt. Hood. Bark is teaming up with Cascadia Wild for January's Bark-About, where we will explore the beautiful winter forest in search of wild animal tracks.
Meanwhile the Forest Service has proposed 4,000 acres of logging on the slopes of Mt. Hood -- potential habitat for the fox. Bark needs your donation today to support groundtruthing, community organizing, and legal research that will help us protect these forests.
Bark has already begun the important work of making information on the Horseshoe, Lava, and Red Hill Timber Sales available on our website so that you know what is planned for your forests. But there is a lot more to do.
This is where Barkers like you come in. We are only $5,500 from our 2012 fundraising goal, and we need your donation today to help us start the new year on strong financial footing.
In 2012, Bark covered more ground and engaged more volunteers than ever before -- and it worked. Protecting the Collawash River from the 2,000-acre Jazz Timber Sale is only the most recent example.
In 2013, we are expanding our in-forest events and trainings like this year's BMP2: Bark's Monitoring Program for Best Management Practices. Our goal next year is not only to cover more ground, but also to challenge the root causes of environmental damage in Mt. Hood National Forest, namely the Forest Service's antiquated timber sale program.
If you have not already made a tax-deductible donation to Bark this year, or have room to give extra, please click here. And don't forget to join us for the January hike!
Thank you and Happy New Year,
Alex P. Brown, Executive Director
